Dr. Miller has a unique background. After completing his undergraduate and graduate degrees in biology, education and sports medicine/athletic training, he became certified as an athletic trainer in 1976. He continued his education receiving a second master’s degree in biology involving hormone research.
In 1988, Dr. Miller competed in the winter Olympic trials for biathlon. His background in education, biology, orthopedics, sports medicine and as an athlete provides Dr. Miller with valuable insights in caring for his patients. While working in the sports medicine field he developed an interest in and was very successful in caring for people with neck and back injuries. During this time, Dr. Miller was anti-Chiropractic because he felt that the Chiropractic profession was not addressing the underlying cause of person’s neck pain or back pain. When licensing for athletic trainers came about in New York State, the care of neck and back injuries was not included in the scope of practice. This led Dr. Miller to attend Chiropractic college so that neck and back injuries could be “cared for the right way”.
At Chiropractic college Dr. Miller discovered the true benefits of Chiropractic and became a proponent of Chiropractic care for helping to improve a person’s health. It seemed to him that the fundamental purpose was similar to other forms of allopathic medicine including sports medicine and physical therapy (i.e. trying to get a person back to where they were before they got injured or sick). Dr. Miller attended a seminar on Network Spinal Analysis (NSA) given by Drs Graber and Rice while at New York Chiropractic College. The research from UC Irvine medical school was presented and discussed, demonstrating that NSA had significant effects on a person’s quality of life.
This began Dr. Miller’s passion for NSA. It was no longer about trying to fix an injury, disease or illness; it was about having an impact on a person’s life and well being. NSA is about helping a person have a higher quality of living, not returning them to where they were.
That is our basic underlying goal at Wellness Sport and Spine; that is, to have an impact, to help you achieve a new level of living and life. We do this not by giving you a fish when you’re hungry but by teaching you how to fish.
